Dr. Mamudu Dako was born at Iyerekhu South Ibie in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State of Nigeria in the late fifties. This is a rural community where ninety percent of the houses were roofed with thatch. The inhabitants of the village were peasant farmers, hunters, and petty traders. The only sources of water supply were about half of dozen of deep wells and a stream that was about five kilometers away. The six-room block of classrooms in the community he attended was one of the buildings roofed with corrugated iron sheets.

Dr. Dako attended medical school at St. George’s University. He obtained a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, his surgical internship at the Mayo Clinic, a diagnostic radiology residency at Temple University Hospital, and his fellowships in cardiothoracic radiology and imaging informatics at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Dr. Dako is the Nigeria Program Director and is on the Board of Directors of RAD-AID International, the premier Radiology NGO in North America.

Prior to joining the firm, he served as pioneer Director of Equity Securities at Renaissances Capital where he was responsible for driving the company’s equities trading and sales business in Nigeria. Before joining Renaissance Capital, Mohammed served as Managing Director / Chief Operating Officer at Zenith Securities Limited, a subsidiary of Zenith Bank Plc, where he was in charge of strategy, deal origination, and execution. He started his banking career with Investment Banking and Trust Company Limited (now Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc) as an Investment Manager.
Mohammed Garuba was a member of the ministerial committee set up to review the Investments and Securities Act (ISA) 2007 based on international best practices regarding statutes governing the operations of the capital market. He is a board member of the Nigerian Chapter of Africa 2.0 a Pan-African advocacy group that exists to rally a coalition of willing individuals and organizations who share a collective vision for Africa and a commitment to finding and implementing sustainable solutions that will in turn leapfrog the development of the continent. He is also the founder and chairman of the Back to Roots Foundation.
Mohammed holds a BSc. in Insurance from the University of Lagos and is also an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers.
Dr. Chris Osiomha Itsede
Dr. Chris Osiomha Itsede was the immediate pioneer Director General of the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM) for 12 years. Amongst other qualifications, he holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc)(Honours) in Economics, (an MSc) in Banking and Finance, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration.
He began his professional career in the Research Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1980. He attended several post-graduate courses and participated in numerous local and international seminars and workshops. He rose steadily through the various professional Economist cadres in the Bank. As the desk officer for economic integration and cooperation in Africa, Dr. Itsede was deeply involved in the drafting and negotiations of the treaty of the African Economic Community (now AU), the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), and the revised treaty of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
In January 1997, he was seconded to WAIFEM as the pioneer Director General, having effectively chaired the Technical Committee that drove the process leading to the establishment of the institute. Dr. Itsede built up the regional capacity-building institution from scratch to become a Centre of Excellence in Africa in the fields of capacity-building in macroeconomics and finance.
He retired from WAIFEM in January 2009, having meritoriously served the Central Bank of Nigeria and WAIFEM. Since then, he has chaired the Board of Directors of Polar-Afrique Consulting. He also serves on the Board of Osomhe Microfinance Bank which he co-founded. Dr. Itsede has at various times served on the Board of Directors of Mainstreet Bank (now Skye Bank), and the National Council for Management Development.
He is a life member of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES), a member, the Nigerian Institute of Management (MIN), the World Association of Debt Managers (WADMO), and was at one time a co-chair of the African Policy Institutes (APIs). He has published books and scholarly articles in local and international journals. Dr. Itsede is a motivational speaker in the areas of organizational re-engineering and capacity building.

Professor Apollos Okwuchi Nwauwa is the Director of Africana Studies at Bowling Green State University, Ohio, USA. Prof Nwauwa earned his B.A. degree from Bendel State (now Ambrose Alli)University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. His teaching and research expertise is in modern African and diaspora studies. He has published extensively and internationally on a number of topics on Igbo, Nigerian, African, and African Diaspora Studies. Professor Nwauwa has published over 30 refereed articles in international scholarly journals; he has also published and coedited five books including the more recent volumes – Nigerian Political Leader: Visions, Actions, and Legacies (2015) as well as Governance and Leadership in Nigeria: Prospects and Challenges(2016). Professor Nwauwa is the Editor-in-Chief of the OFO Journal of Transatlantic Studies and the General Secretary of Nigerians in diaspora Organization in the Americas (NIDOA-USA). He serves on the board of several companies and agencies within and outside Nigeria.

He graduated from the then St Paul’s Primary School (now Iyerekhu Primary school) in 1970 and attended Our Lady of Fatima Grammar School, Auchi, Edo State from 1971-1975. He attended the prestigious University of Ibadan from 1976-1982 where he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS) in 1982. DAKO also studied in Hull Royal Infirmary, England, United Kingdom, and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria where he bagged a Diploma in Family Medicine in 2013. He has worked in many hospitals in Nigeria and the United Kingdom and has been the Medical Director and Chief Executive of Dako Medical Centre in Lagos, Nigeria since 1992.
